A little recap… I’ve already talked about setting clear parameters for your team to operate successfully within. Parameters are like the edges of a soccer pitch and within those edges is the creative space.
In that creative space we want people to have the right level of autonomy – we’ve talked about that too – to think, bounce ideas and make decisions. This is all about having the creative space to make improvements, problem solve for customers and put our brains to best use … collaboratively.
BUT, how is creativity thought of in your team?
We’re leaning into team culture here. Is it Ok for people to do things differently to make improvements, or is there just one way doing things?
If we want continuous improvement, then we need to value creativity!
Action Points
- Make sure it’s safe for people to throw ideas around
- Cross-pollinate – that means share problem solving approaches between team members
- Frame failure as a learning experience
- Tell your people to ‘give things a go’!
- Encourage people to think differently, facilitate brainstorming sessions
Remember, within the parameters, there’s space to create, so use it!
